The Bilstein 8112 and 8100 suspension system is one of the most capable direct-fit suspension upgrades available for the 2010-2024 Toyota 4Runner. The system combines Bilstein's high-pressure monotube construction, large-bore shock bodies, remote reservoirs, and position-sensitive damping to deliver controlled on-road handling and dependable performance in demanding off-road conditions.

Bilstein 8112 coilovers use ZoneControl CR position-sensitive damping with three compression zones, two rebound zones, and three independent pistons. The system remains responsive during everyday driving while progressively increasing damping and bottom-out control as the suspension moves deeper into its travel.

Vehicle-specific front springs are preloaded for the application, while the threaded spring-retainer design allows ride-height adjustment. The remote reservoirs increase oil volume and cooling capacity to help maintain consistent performance over rough terrain and extended periods of use.

The 8112 DSA+ coilovers build on the standard ZoneControl CR design by adding independent low-speed and high-speed compression adjustment. This allows the front suspension to be tuned for daily driving, changing terrain, added armor, cargo, rooftop tents, towing, and other changes in vehicle weight. Low-speed adjustment primarily affects chassis movement during braking, cornering, acceleration, and gradual terrain changes. High-speed adjustment controls damping during rapid shaft movement caused by potholes, rocks, washboard roads, whoops, and larger impacts.

The standard 8100 remote-reservoir rear shocks are an excellent all-around option for daily-driven, trail, and overland 4Runners. Their 60mm internal-diameter monotube bodies provide greater oil capacity and damping surface area, while the external reservoirs increase fluid volume and help control heat during long periods of use.

Bilstein 8100 DSA rear shocks add independently adjustable low-speed and high-speed compression damping. The external adjusters allow the rear suspension to be tuned for changes in cargo, camping equipment, armor, towing load, road conditions, terrain, and personal ride preference.

The 8100 Bypass shocks are designed for drivers seeking maximum rear-suspension control during aggressive and high-speed off-road driving. External bypass passages create position-sensitive damping zones that allow more compliant movement during the initial portion of the stroke and progressively increase control as the shock approaches full compression or extension. Independent compression and rebound adjusters provide an additional level of tuning. Left- and right-specific shock designs ensure the reservoirs, bypass tubes, and adjusters are properly positioned on the vehicle.
