Bilstein's 6112 shocks are the go-fast go-big upgrade over the 5100 series. With a much thicker body and 60mm piston, the damping ability of the 6112 exceeds normal 2 inch shocks. More damping surface from the 60mm piston provides more consistency in similar terrains vs the 5100, Less work required with the 2.6" 6112 results in less harshness and more comfort. Another big advantage of the 6112 shock are the various height choices to account for different weight loads or tire clearance requirements. With Bilstein's build quality and reliability, these shocks do not need to be serviced as soon as similar 2.5" shock offerings.
This kit uses the 6112 front shocks and springs as the baseline, with interchangeable rear shocks according to lengths required. Rear lift options at 2" or greater will require an extended length rear shock to accommodate.
Bilstein Front 6112 - 47-309975
Bilstein Rear 5100 - 24-186728
- Uses new included coil springs for the 6112 shocks, lift height is achieved through the numerous circlip rings on the shock; adjusted prior to install.
- 60mm piston means more damping surface volume, and having to do less work than a smaller (2in) shock or 46mm piston, one word - consistent.
- For more aggressive offroad use compared to the 5100 series
Fully Assembled Option - by selecting one of the performance coil spring and assembly options, Shock Surplus will fully assembled the front Bilstein 5100 struts, coil springs, and new top hats for easy installation. Lift heights are approximations and may not be exact for your specific setup.
Lean / Trim Spacers
These are either 1/2" or 1" spacers. 1/2" spacers do not require extended top bolts, but 1" will, which we do not supply. You can achieve 2.5" total lift by using the tallest height setting on the 6112 shocks, and a 1/2" strut spacer.
Front Spring Options
Standard springs in this 6112 kit come at 600lb, while 650 and 700 rates are available for an additional cost. We cannot swap out the 600lb included springs for the HD options, the HD springs must be purchased along with the base kit. Going with a heavier spring rate is meant for additional weight requirements, and only using them to achieve more lift will net a much firmer ride.
- Base Kit - 600lb Springs Included

Rear Lift Options
There are many options to lift the rear of your Tacoma, with their own pros and cons. Traditionally we recommend a progressive add-a-leaf setup that both improves handling and height requirements with the additional weight, without negatively affecting ride quality too much.

Second String
This is not a typical review, the Bilstein 6112/5125 is actually a down grade from the 4 year old Kings that I usually run. I got them to daily drive as I fine tune and rebuild my Kings and only use them for extended trips. With that being said I did run the Bilsteins on about 250 miles of desert terrain. They did ok for the price point (they are definitely not Kings). The 6112s are a solid performance upgrade to a stock ride even with a 700 pound spring they took a while to “warm up” and get into a softer ride zone, they do run stiff. Better at a medium shaft speed, and recover faster than I expected. The 5125s run soft, which is ok for my stiffer leafs in the rear. On the highway and fire roads they were a very nice ride. As for rougher trail and washboard like stuff they got hot very easily, I mean very hot. Shock fade was eminent. They obviously didn’t have the cooling capability of a remote reservoir shock. As for a simple replacement for daily driving I have no complaints about this set up.
Great experience
I am so happy I went with Shock Surplus! I ordered a lift kit with another company first and it was a nightmare. After 3 months with the other company, I still had not received my lift kit. I cancelled my order and ordered from Shock Surplus. The rear lift came within a week and the front a week after. Instructions were great and the parts shipped with no issues. The lift came out awesome and I could not be happier. I would definitely order from them again.
Biltstein 6112/5160 Lift
I am quite happy with the Bilstein 6112s and 5160s I ordered for my 2020 Tacoma Offroad. I had them assemble the 6112s to provide two inches of lift and with the 650-lb coil springs. I wasn’t sure which spring to order since I have a steel front bumper and winch but they were quite quick in responding to my query. The 5160s arrived in about a week but had to wait for the 6112s for Bilstein to provide the heavier coil springs and for the assembly but it was worth it. Their video descriptions on YouTube are accurate. This lift does fit my off-road driving style. On pavement they are firm but not uncomfortable and also fits, how I drive. They also provided great advice whether I would need to replace my UCAs or not in another video. I would have to say watch their videos. If you are trying to select a lift for your vehicle. My mechanic had them installed in no time at all. It was worth having them assemble the coils. It probably saved me money at the auto shop. Great work guys!
The 6112’s were on backorder. Shock surplus kept me up to date on lead times, and helped me figure out what would be the best alternative when I decided I couldn’t wait on bilstein. 5 star service from Nick!
Dishonest Company
Horrible.... Dishonest and divisive company. You will not receive your order in a timely manner. They push back the delivery date and customer service is non existent. Do your self a favor and purchase somewhere else.
